Head to head
West Brom host Wigan on afternoon at The Hawthorns with Slaven Bilić’s side continuing their quest at the top of the table for automatic promotion into the Premier League. Read the West Brom v Wigan match preview and predictions below.
West Brom now have generated a 10-point gap between themselves at the top of the Championship and 3rd placed Nottingham Forest, making them firm favourites to be a Premier League club next season without having to achieve a place via the playoffs. With 11 games remaining this term, only a handful of wins are realistically needed for the Baggies to achieve that and they will look to take all three points at home on Saturday to make sure that happens. Slaven Bilić’s side have picked up 5 wins and a draw in their last 6 matches and have conceded just 3 goals in those games, putting them in great form. They’re heavy favourites for the win on Saturday which isn’t surprising given that Wigan have picked up just 11 points on their travels all season.
Wigan are currently 3 points into the relegation zone and are unlikely to climb their way out this weekend. Middlesbrough, who sit above them in the league face a tough match against 2nd placed Leeds which is some consolidation but Paul Cook knows his side must pick up points quickly to avoid a late relegation fight in the coming months. His side has found a bit of form of late having won their last outing 1-0 at home to Millwall and achieving consecutive 2-2 draws against Cardiff and Middlesbrough, proving they can still find the net. However, Saturday’s match will be a much tougher test for them against the league leaders. It is worth mentioning that they did take away three points away to Leeds at the beginning of the month showing that they can give the top teams a game.

West Brom v Wigan Prediction
Wigan have picked up wins of late and against teams in the top half of the table. Paul Cooks side have also found the net five times in their last three matches and haven’t failed to score in their last seven and so we wouldn’t be surprised to see them get on the scoresheet on Saturday. However, we feel West Brom, who are in excellent form, will be too strong for them and expect the home side to take away all three points. A 2-1 or 3-1 home win is our prediction with the visitors having to wait another week to climb out of the relegation zone.
