Newcastle host Oxford United on Saturday afternoon in the FA Cup with both sides hoping to progress to the last 16. Read the Newcastle v Oxford match preview and predictions below.
Newcastle are having a relatively good season under the management of Steve Bruce. The magpies are currently unbeaten in the last 5 matches, winning 2 and drawing 3 including a vital point away to Everton at the weekend when two injury-time goals from Florian Lejeune denied Everton from taking away all three points. Their performances have been mixed this season but there have been definite improvements with some of the players uch as Miguel Almiron and Matty Longstaff.
Oxford sit in 5th position in League One and are pushing for automatic promotion. They’re currently winless in their last 4 league games and so manager Karl Robinson will be wanting his team to get back on track in the league over pushing for a cup run. That said, this is a winnable game for Oxford despite the hosts being the clear favourites. Newcastle have a very bad record in the FA Cup and making it through to the last 16 would be a relatively rare occurrence for them.

Newcastle v Oxford Prediction
Despite Newcastle mixed form this season, they are expected favourites to progress to the last 16 of the FA Cup. They dominated their last round tie against Rochdale and we expect the same at St James Park on Saturday. Providing Newcastle can start strongly and get the first goal, we can see the visitors’ heads dropping sooner rather than later. Newcastle are prone to leaking goals at the back though and it’s not often they keep a clean sheet which is why we’re backing Newcastle to win & both team to score.
