The Villans’ promotion hopes took a hit last weekend, as they were beaten 2-0 away to play-off rivals Derby County. Meanwhile, the Blades continued to lack a cutting edge in a 1-0 defeat away to Preston North End.

After his comeback off the bench against Derby, Scott Hogan is expected to replace Josh Onamah as the focal point of Villa’s attack. Mile Jedinak is fit enough to start but Henri Lansbury, John Terry, Jonathan Kodjia and Andre Green remain on the sidelines through injury.

Sheff Utd Team News

David Brooks will come in to midfield to replace John Fleck who was sent off against Bristol City. Leon Clarke is the danger man for the visitors and could take his tally to 15 goals in this match. Ched Evans, Kieron Freeman and Paul Coutts miss out through injury.

Aston Villa v Sheffield United Predictions

Aston Villa had started to build momentum and although last week’s setback at Derby was  their first loss in six, they drew two matches before that against leeds United and Millwall respectively. They remain in the playoff hunt but automatic promotion is beginning to  look beyond them, given the ten point gap to second-placed Cardiff City.

Sheffield United initially took the Championship by storm after coming up from League One but results have dried up. Still, they probably wouldn’t have dreamed of being in the playoff mix at the halfway point in  the season. The Blades need to stop the rot and arrive without a win in their last five matches.

Steve Bruce has his defence well organised but could be accused of being overly cautious. A lot of Villa’s  games have been slow burners and with Sheff Utd not banging them in like they were a few weeks back, this could be a low-scoring game. The tip is for both teams to cancel eachother out in a 1-1 draw.
