Supreme Court Opens Up Possibility of Matched Betting In The USA

In the last few days, a ruling from the US Supreme Court has opened up the possibility of sports betting being legalised across the United States. Of course, if sports betting as a whole becomes allowed, this means that matched betting may also become a possibility for American residents in the future.

The Supreme Court has now endorsed a state ruling in New Jersey in 2014 that allows sports betting at horse racing tracks and in casinos. This was despite the fact that a number of major sporting bodies in the US had apposed the ruling. This includes the NBA, the country’s major basketball league.

Due to the ruling, the share price for many of the UK-based bookmakers rose. For example, Paddy Power Betfair’s share price went up by 10.5%, while the share price for William Hill rose 9.4%. Shares in US based Churchill Downs also rose by 5.73%.

This ruling by the Supreme Court in the United States goes directly against the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) of 1992 that banned all kinds of sports betting in most American states. At the moment Nevada, Delaware, Montana and Oregon allow sports betting.

Speaking on behalf of the Supreme Court, Justice Samuel Alito wrote:

“The legalisation of sports gambling requires an important policy choice, but the choice is not ours to make.

“Congress can regulate sports gambling directly, but if it elects not to do so, each state is free to act on its own.”

The possibility of matched betting for US residents is a very exciting one.

If you are unfamiliar with the term, matched betting is a way of making money from bookmaker offers. When bookmakers offer the opportunity of free bets and bonuses, we can use a betting exchange such as Betfair to our advantage. This is through placing a back bet with the bookmaker and a lay bet with a betting exchange.

The matched betting calculator on MatchedBets.com is a huge help when matched betting, as it uses a clever formula to work out all of the necessary stakes. As all possible outcomes are covered, an expected profit could be made from each free bet, just by following the simple steps in the premium section of MatchedBets.com.

If the outcome of this Supreme Court ruling means that sports betting becomes legal in many US states, our readers in the United States could start to benefit from our matched betting advice and make money online.
