Sky Bet to offer ‘minimum bet’ guarantee.

On Monday, online betting site Sky Bet became the latest bookmaker to offer customers a ‘minimum bet’ guarantee on horse racing.

The news follows BetVictor’s announcement, a week prior, that they would be offering all customers the chance to bet on any UK & Irish horse racing with their ‘lay-to-lose’ guarantee which allows customers to win up to £500 on horse racing even if they have previously had their accounts restricted or closed.

Similar to BetVictor, Sky Bet’s ‘minimum bet to win’ guarantee applies to all customers. However, bets only apply to Class One and Class Two races, don’t apply to multiples and covers only the win part of each way bets. The minimum bet guarantee is available to all customers who place bets after 10 am on the morning of the races. The number of eligible races may disappoint some but it is a step in the right direction for Sky Bet and will please many horse racing punters.

Many punters have complained in recent years of winning accounts being restricted or closed which has left them unable to place bets at certain bookmakers. Horse Racing Bettors Forum has been pushing for changes and after discussions with BetVictor, their efforts seem to have paid off with Sky Bet and hopefully more bookmakers following suit.

On Monday, HorseRacing Bettors Forum Tweeted:

“HBF welcomes news today that @SkyBet is to offer a minimum bet guarantee. Whilst not as comprehensive a provision as some, it is a further step in the right direction, and another operator prepared to allow previously restricted customers to have a reasonable bet on some races.”

Sky Bet’s minimum bet guarantee will not apply to other horseracing promotions such as Money Back if 2nd or price boosts and so does not really apply to matched betting. However, it’s good news for punters who will be hoping more online bookmakers make similar announcements in the near future.
