Royal Ascot 2019

Royal Ascot is one of the most prestigious events on the sporting calendar and takes place in the third week of June each year. Ascot was founded in 1711 by Queen Anne with Royal Ascot dating back to 1911.

This year, Royal Ascot will begin on Tuesday 18th June and run for five consecutive days, each providing six races throughout the day.

Over the five days, more than 300,000 visitors will attend the event along with a host of royalty which includes the Queen, who arrives in a horse-drawn carriage. We could possibly also see the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, make her first appearance as a member of the royal family.

Each day of the festival has stand-out races with perhaps the featured race being the Gold Cup, taking place at 16:20 on Thursday afternoon. The Gold Cup is run over a distance of 2m4f and has a prize fund of £500,000. The total prize fund for 2019 Royal Ascot is just over £7.3m with a minimum of £90,000 per race.

Royal Ascot is one of the busiest weeks of the year for bookmakers who take an estimated £400m worth of bets on the 30 races. Attendees of Royal Ascot may use racecourse bookmakers for quick access to funds and for the novelty enjoyment but the majority of bets with year will be placed online. Many online bookmakers will be running an increased number of promotions over the five days in an attempt to attract more customers and encourage existing ones to bet more. Competition between online bookmakers in 2019 is high and as a result, we see many of them offering new and existing customers promotions such as free bets, horse racing refunds, money-back if 2nd and extra places. All of these offers can be extremely profitable to punters and gives them an additional edge of their bets.
