Premier League top scorer predictions
August 15, 2019
The new Premier League season has begun, and the opening weekend was full of goals. Some of the leading contenders to be the top scorer got off to a good start, showing that they will again be major contenders to win the Golden Boot. Time to look who at who might end up scoring the most goals in the Premier League this season.
Raheem Sterling
There was a time when Sterling struggled to score goals. Those days are gone now, and the past two seasons saw the Manchester City player score 35 goals in 67 league games. He started the new season in the best possible manner hitting a hat-trick against West Ham United. If you fancy having a cheeky wager on Raheem, makes sure you check out some sports betting reviews first before putting your money down with a bookie.
Playing in such a high-scoring team as the current Premier League champions is a huge advantage of course. He has made great strides since the arrival of Pep Guardiola at the Etihad. There’s the problem of squad rotation being carried out by City, but Sterling doesn’t always need that much time on the pitch to score. He’s the 6/1 fourth favourite to be top goalscorer but would likely need to score 20 goals in a Premier League season for the first time.
Harry Kane
The Tottenham striker also made a good start to his Premier League season. He rescued his team with two late goals against Aston Villa. He’s Mr. Consistency when it comes to scoring goals in the Premier League.
Last season was the only time in the past five that he failed to reach the 20 goals mark. There was a good excuse for that as he missed several games due to ankle injuries. Kane still managed to score 17 goals in 28 Premier League matches. His average goals per game did drop from the previous season. Kane is the 7/2 favourite at Unibet to be top goal scorer, but you do have to worry about those injuries cropping up again.
Mo Salah
The Egyptian striker has scored 54 league goals in the past two seasons. He won the Golden Boot in 2017/18 and shared it last season. Salah got the new Premier League season off to a good start scoring against Norwich City.
He went through a bit of a goal drought at one stage of last season but still ended with 22 scored. At 9/2 with Ladbrokes, he looks a good bet to again win the Golden Boot.
Sergio Aguero
The Manchester City striker has scored at least 20 league goals in each of the past five seasons. He hit 21 in 33 Premier League games last season; the same amount scored in just 21 the season before that.
Aguero was only a substitute against West Ham in their opening game but still came on and scored. Just as with Raheem Sterling, there’s that worry about squad rotation costing him games and he’s 8/1 at SkyBet to win the Golden Boot.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
The French striker has been a revelation since joining Arsenal. He scored 22 goals in 36 league appearances last season and has totalled 33 in 50 games overall. He got off the mark when scoring the winner against Newcastle United in their first game of the new season.
Arsenal have an impressive looking forward line this season. That should mean more goals for Aubameyang in the coming months. He’s available at 6/1 at Paddy Power to be top goalscorer.
Others to Consider
Marcus Rashford netted twice for Manchester United in their opening game of the season. Sadio Mané was one of three players to share the Golden Boot last season. The Liverpool player could again have a successful season.
