Premier League Golden Boot: Where’s The Value?

After week one of the new Premier League season, punters are looking at the best value on the Golden Boot market. There are plenty of possibilities, and from what we saw at the weekend it looks as if it will be an extremely competitive race to see who will grab the most goals.

From a matched betting point of view, finding a popular goalscorer is handy for promotions such as the Betfred Football offer of Double Delight/Hat-trick Heaven. Here, if you place a bet on the First Goalscorer market in any eligible match and the player scores first and then scores again, Betfred will offer you double the odds for a second goal and treble the odds if he gets a hat-trick. Obviously, the more likely they are to score, the more likely the offer will come off. So, who looks likely to top the goal scoring charts in May?

Romelu Lukaku

After a 2 goal haul which would have been excellent for the Betfred offer above, Manchester United’s new number 9 has been placed as the clear favourite for the Golden Boot with many bookmakers, at prices such as 5/2 and 9/4. His fantastic start can come as no surprise, as the Belgian scored 25 goals last season while at Everton. With players such as Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan now creating chances for him, ‘Red Rom’ will surely be towards the top of the charts again.

Harry Kane

Having won the golden boot two seasons in a row, who would back against the Spurs striker doing it again? The fact that he drew a blank in his first game should not be looked into too much. He did look sharp and was unlucky to hit the post, plus a lot of his goals last season came in the final few games. He scored 4 in the penultimate game and 3 on the final day! He currently has a best price of 9/2 in the outright market. One thing is for sure, this man will score goals.

Alvaro Morata

Though there seems to be some unrest in the Chelsea camp at the moment, the new number 9 still managed to get himself on the scoresheet in what turned out to be a nightmare opening day. If Antonio Conte can get his team playing anywhere near the level they did last season, the Spaniard is certain to score goals. He netted frequently at big clubs such as Juventus and Real Madrid, and there should be no reason why that won’t continue in England. He can be backed at a best price 12/1.

Alexandre Lacazette

Another striker that got off to a blistering start, scoring on his Arsenal debut within the first few minutes. Having consistently got goals in the French league, he is now looking to make the step up in quality and so far, so good. If the Gunners can get main man Alexis Sanchez back in the team, Lacazette would benefit from even more service. I would be surprised if the Frenchman didn’t reach at least 20 goals this term, so his best price 9/1 looks like good value.

Sergio Aguero/Gabriel Jesus

The reason these two incredible players have been placed together is due to the fact it is unclear who will be Manchester City’s main man. Aguero has been the King for years, but the young Brazilian seems to be a real challenger for that crown. They both started against Brighton, with Aguero scoring and Jesus looking dangerous. Pep Guardiola’s men are sure to grab a lot of goals, and these two are likely to provide most of them. You can back Aguero at 7/1 and Jesus at 12/1.
