Paddy Power Pays Out On Celtic To Win 2017-18 Scottish Premiership

Celtic Early Payout - Paddy Power

Punter-friendly online bookmaker, Paddy Power has once again decided to offer an early payout. Outright bets on Celtic to win the 2017-18 Scottish Premiership have been settled as winners, despite the season not starting until August 5th. It follows a surprise exit from the Europa League suffered by their Glasgow rivals, Rangers.

The Ibrox side lost 2-0 to minnows Progres Niederkorn on Tuesday night. The obscure Luxembourg side had never won a European match until goals from Emmanuel Françoise and Sébastien Thill sealed the historic win. Being knocked out of Europe by a team of part-timers has prompted some Gers fans to call for new manager Pedro Caixinha to resign, although the Portuguese tactician insists he is the right man for the job.

Ever the humorist, Paddy Power was quick to jump on the shock result that has been dubbed ‘the worst in Scottish football history’. Following Rangers’ embarrassing defeat, the bookie used its Twitter account to announce the early payout on Celtic.

“Sod it – we’re paying out on Celtic winning next season’s Scottish Premiership title.”

Another Early Payout From Paddy Power

It’s not the first time that the Irish firm have taken such action. In 2008 there was an early payout on Stoke City to be relegated when they lost 3-1 to Bolton on the opening day of the season. The Potters went on to finish mid-table, costing the bookmaker a small fortune. In 2011, Paddy Power paid out early on New Zealand to win the Rugby World Cup. This time they got it right, as the All-Blacks won the final four days later, edging France 8-7.

Punters have also benefited from numerous ‘Justice Payouts’ over the years. One famous instance of this was when Paddy Power refunded bets on Felipe Massa to win the 2010 German Grand Prix. The Brazilian had a seemingly unassailable lead but Ferrari team orders saw him relinquish first place to allow Fernando Alonso to win. So aside from a good range of online betting offers and money back specials, Paddy Power has shown a willingness to give a refund when there has been an obvious injustice.
