Paddy Power Pay Out On Mayweather Early
August 23, 2017
The biggest fight in recent memory is not far away, and punters are placing their bets on their chosen fighter. Interestingly, bookmaker Paddy Power have announced that they are paying out early on Floyd Mayweather to beat Conor McGregor.
So, anyone who has backed the undefeated American boxer before the announcement will be paid as a winner. This is days before the two fighters will even come close to the ring. It is a move that has cost the bookie around £250,000, and they are taking a massive risk. If a shock happens and McGregor does find a way to win, Paddy will be seriously out of pocket.
As it turns out, nearly 80% of the punters on Paddy Power have been backing McGregor to win, which won’t come as a massive surprise considering a lot of these punters will be from Ireland.
Counting Out The Irish
The fact that the Irish bookmaker has decided to pretty much rule out the chances of their fellow countryman has taken quite a few people by surprise, and you can imagine that staunch McGregor fans from the Emerald Isle will not be too pleased with the lack of faith shown in their hero.
A spokesman for Paddy Power had this to say on the situation:
“We’re spinning the roulette wheel a bit here – as getting it wrong would see a serious Mac Attack on my bank balance.
“But, when you’re backing Mayweather, you’ve basically covered the whole board anyway.
“Patriotism aside, we are paying out early on a Mayweather victory – because we checked, and only one of them is a boxer.”
The odds started off with Mayweather as a massive favourite, however with the sheer amount of money placed on McGregor plus the announcement of 8oz gloves, Conor’s odds have been slashed to 10/3 while Floyd can be backed at 1/4.
Paddy Power believe that more than £200million will be taken overall for the fight, and they expect most of the money to come in the final few days. It remains to be seen whether or not the decision to pay out early on Mayweather turns out to be a masterstoke, but it is certainly a very interesting marketing ploy that will get a lot of people talking.
Of course, the promotions on offer from Paddy Power will always be listed on MatchedBets.com, each with their own step by step guide. Offers on the fight from other bookmakers will also be listed if they offer value, such as a 138.com free bet if McGregor wins at enhanced odds of 138/1.
