Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appointed as full-time manager of Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been announced as the full-time manager of Manchester United.

The Norwegian has signed a three-year contract with the club following a successful three months in charge.

Not many would have backed the former United player to be chosen for the full-time post after the departure of Jose Mourinho back in December but an impressive 14 wins from 19 games in all competitions has gained him the job ahead of former first-choice Mauricio Pochettino. United’s comeback against PSG in the Champions League to secure a place in the quarter-finals against Barcelona further contributed to fans delight and many will be delighted by the appointment of their new manager for the next three seasons.

Manchester United are currently in fifth place in the Premier League, two points behind Arsenal and three points adrift of third-placed Tottenham. Securing a spot in next seasons Champions League will be considered an achievement for Solskjaer given their position and league form when he took over as interim manager. However, his side still remain in this season’s elite competition albeit facing a tough clash with Spanish giants Barcelona who were eliminated at this stage in last season’s competition by Roma.

Following Solskjaer’s appointment today, many bookmakers have offered enhanced odds on a number of Man Utd specials. Both William Hill and Betfred are offering price boosts on United to finish in the top 4 of the Premier League with William Hill’s odds slightly higher at 6/4, boosted from 11/10. Betfred are also offering odds of 8/1 that Solskjaer will lead his team to this season Champions League final and 22/1 that they’ll lift the cup.

These enhanced odds may provide opportunities to lock in a profit should the betting exchanges lay odds for the same market be lower than the bookmakers boosted odds. By simply backing and laying a bet, it may be possible to return a profit regardless of how United progress this season.
