Bookies hint at these players leaving Manchester United in the summer

Manchester United suffered a 2-0 defeat against defending champions and local rivals Manchester City on Wednesday evening to continue their run of poor results. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have now lost seven of their last nine games in all competitions, a stark difference from the time following the Norweigians appointment when United suffered just one defeat in his first 17 games in charge.

Wednesday evenings result at Old Trafford will not please Liverpool fans who saw this fixture as City’s last chance to slip up in the 2-team title race. City are now top of the table by one point with three games remaining and the bookies have slashed their odds to just 1/4 to retain their title as champions.

Some bookmakers are offering enhanced odds for City to retain their title from which it’s possible to make a profit from using no-risk matched betting. Man Utd can thank Wolves for denying Arsenal points in their match on Wednesday and Burnley for holding 4th placed Chelsea to a 2-2 draw on Monday. Those results leave United three points adrift of a Champions League place and with a decisive fixture against Chelsea on Sunday.

Manchester United securing a Champions League spot may be the deciding factor as to whether a string of players remain at the club next season and the bookies have tipped some surprise exits in the summer. It’s no surprise that Solskjaer will be looking to bring in fresh faces in the transfer window but he will want to hold on to a number of key players to avoid leaving his squad without sufficient backup.

Ander Herrera is the bookies favourite to head out the door at odds of just 2/7. The Spaniard’s contract is due to come to an end soon and it is rumoured that PSG may be interested in the midfielder.

Alexis Sanchez is the next favourite at odds of 1/2. The Chilean has featured in 18 of United’s 35 games this season, scoring just one goal and has struggled to find the consistency he showed at Arsenal prior to his transfer.

Juan Mata is another player who is nearing the end of his contract and the bookies are offering odds of 4/6 for the 30-year-old to leave Old Trafford in the summer.

Many United fans wouldn’t be hugely disappointed with the departure of the players mentioned but the bookies have hinted at more high-profile players also to leave the club.

Romelu Lukaku (5/4), Paul Pogba (7/4),  David De Gea (15/8) and Marcus Rashford (7/1) could all possibly leave with Real Madrid marking Pogba as a transfer target and Barcelona reportedly interested in England forward Rashford.

De Gea would leave a huge gap in United’s defence, despite not having the best of seasons, while Pogba has recently found his form under Solskjaer and Rashford is one of England’s most promising stars of the future.

All these players will be hoping to play Champions League football next season and should United not secure a place amongst Europe’s elite, they could be tempted to move on.
