BetBright closes after 888 takeover

Online bookmaker BetBright will no longer offer gambling services after announcing their closure shortly after being acquired by 888.

On Tuesday 5th March, BetBright announced they will cease to offer gambling services on a permanent basis. Customers have been notified that they will be able to access their accounts for a period of 30 days and have advised them to withdraw any remaining funds from their accounts during that period.

Customers who have unsettled bets which are due to settle past 5th March 2019 will have their bets voided and stakes returned. Multiples will have unsettled legs voided with any currently settled winning legs being settled as winners.

The news comes as a bit of a shock given that BetBright was purchased by 888 just a day earlier on Monday 4th March for a fee of £15 million. It is thought that 888 will be using the BetBright platform to improve the service of 888Sport.

888 previously purchased the platforms for BetBright’s casino, bingo and poker sections with 888 Chief Executive Itai Pazner saying:

“It gives the group the missing piece in our proprietary product and technology portfolio and will enable 888 to own proprietary, end-to-end solutions across the four major online gaming verticals.”

“We are confident that this acquisition will increase the group’s long-term prospects and differentiation in the growing global sports betting market.

The BetBright sportsbook has been developed by a fantastic team and is a high-quality and scalable platform. Our new colleagues joining from BetBright will significantly strengthen 888’s sports betting expertise and industry know-how, and we are delighted to welcome them into the group.”

It is unclear at this time if customers of BetBright will be moved over to 888. Further information will likely be released in the coming days.
