3 sporting events to bet on during the football off-season

The summer brings us holidays abroad, beer gardens and with a bit of luck, some nice weather. However, with the majority of major football leagues concluding for the season in May, for many of us, the three-month break from our favourite sport leaves us short on sporting events to both watch and bet on. We have roughly 7 weeks to go until the Premier League kicks off again but thankfully, there are some exciting events taking place during that time which should encourage bookmakers to release some great betting offers.

We’ll be expecting a number of profitable betting offers released for the sporting events below including ‘Bet & Get’ offers, money-back specials and extra places. Be sure to keep an eye on your favourite bookmakers during these events to keep up to date with the latest offers.

Here are three major sporting events taking place in the summer:

1.Wimbledon

Also known as ‘The Championships’, Wimbledon is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. It takes place this year from Monday 1st July until Sunday 14th July and is one of the highlights of the sporting calendar each year.

Bookmakers are sure to be running a number of betting offers for the tournament which should be released in the coming days.

novak jokovic

Four-time men’s singles champion, Novak Djokovic, won in three straight sets last year against Kevin Anderson and so it’s no surprise that he’s the bookies favourite again this year at odds of just 13/8. However, victory is nowhere near guaranteed with the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal also competing.

2.Horse Racing

Horse racing takes place all year round and so is the perfect sport to focus on when other sports are on a break. We’ve recently had the pleasure of Royal Ascot taking place in late June but we also have Glorious Goodwood to look forward to which takes place over five days from Tuesday 30th July to Saturday 3nd August. Glorious Goodwood is one of the highlights of the British flat racing calendar and hugely popular with punters. Some of the highlights of Goodwood include the Qatar Goodwood Cup on day one, the £1million Qatar Sussex Stakes on day two, Ladies Day on day three, the £300,000 Group 2 Qatar King George Stakes on day four and the £250,000 Qatar Stewards Cup on day five.

Bookmakers will be running a number of offers for Glorious Goodwood which will include free bets, extra places, money-back offers and more.

3.The British Open

Also known as ‘The Open Championship’, the British Open is the oldest of the four Majors and takes place at Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim, Northern Ireland over four days from Thursday 18th July to Sunday 21st July.

Italian Francesco Molinari won the 2018 British Open, finishing 8 under and will attract some bets this year at odds of 20/1. However, it is American Brooks Koepka who finished in 39th place with 2 over last year, who is the bookies favourite this year at odds of 8/1 with Rory McIlroy (10/1), Dustin Johnson (12/1), Tiger Woods (14/1) and Justin Rose (16/1) also all favoured over last years winner.

Golf is often overlooked by bettors but there can be huge value in the betting offers available from bookmakers during major tournaments. Extra places are one of the most common betting offers available for golf tournaments which give punters additional chances to profit from their each way bets.
