The Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup was introduced in 1946 by Mrs Evan Williams and named in memory of her brother, Kim Muir who died in World War II.
Originally named the Kim Muir Amateur Riders’ Steeplechase, it was renamed in 1991 to the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup in honour of trainer Fulke Walwyn who had 211 wins at Cheltenham, 40 of which were at the Cheltenham Festival.
The race is run on the New Course at Cheltenham over a distance of approximately 3 miles and 2 furlongs and features twenty-one fences.
