The Stayers’ Hurdle takes place on the new course at Cheltenham Racecourse and features on Day 3 of the Cheltenham Festival.
The race is run over a distance of approximately 3 miles and features 12 hurdles to be jumped. It was introduced in 1912 when the winner of the race received just £100. The total prize fund today for the Stayers’ Hurdle is £325,000.
Originally called the ‘Stayers’ Selling Hurdle’ due to the winning horse being sold after the race for £50, the name was changed to the ‘Wold Hurdle’ in 2005 when Ladbrokes took over sponsorship. The name Stayers’ Hurdle was introduced in 2017 when former betting brand Sun Bets sponsored the race.
