The Queen Mother Champion Chase takes place on day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival and is considered the featured race of the day. It is run over a course distance of 1 mile 7 furlongs and 199 yards, contains 13 fences to be jumped and is open to horses aged 5 and over.
The race was introduced in 1959 and was originally names the ‘National Hunt Two-Mile Champion Chase’ up until 1980 when it was renamed The Queen Mother Champion Chase in respect to the Queen Mother’s 80th birthday that year and her support to jump racing.
The Queen Mother Champion Chase has had various sponsors over the years starting from 2007, including betting brands Sportingbet, Betvictor and the current sponsor, Betway.
