The Mares’ Chase, also known as the Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Steeple Chase for sponsorship purposes, is a new race which was introduced at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival.

The new Grade 2 race takes place at 16:50 on day 4 of the festival (Gold Cup Day) and replaces the Listed Novices’ Handicap Chase which was previously run on the opening day of the festival. As such, the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Handicap Steeple Chase was moved to the Wednesday and the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle moved to the opening day.

The race is run over a distance of 2m 4f on the Cheltenham Old Course and restricted to mares aged five years or older.
