The Cheltenham Gold Cup is the highlight of the four days of racing at the Cheltenham Festival and takes place at 15:30 on the final day.
The Gold Cup is run over a distance of 3 miles and 1/2 furlong at the Cheltenham new course and contains 22 fences to be jumped. It currently awards the highest prize money of all the races taking place at the Cheltenham Festival with a total prize fund of £625,000.
Originally a flat race when it was introduced in 1819, the Gold Cup first featured jumps at the 1924 Cheltenham Festival when the prize for the winning horse was just £685.
