There are 15 sports to trade on which are; American Football, Australian Rules, Baseball, Boxing, Cricket, Gaelic Football, Golf, Horse Racing, Hurling, MMA, Politics, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Soccer and Tennis. This is not a huge selection but as you can see, most of the popular sports are covered.

Matchbook football betting is quite limited in the number of competitions available, with a distinct focus on more popular events. This means that you can bet on the likes of Premier League football and the Champions League. There are also markets for international competitions like the CONCACAF Gold Cup but friendlies and lower level matches get overlooked.

In most instances there are around 12 betting markets for each match. This includes Match Odds, Over/Under and Handicap betting. Again this is not the most extensive coverage, with no Correct Score or Half-Time/Full-Time which are offered as standard on most other betting sites.

Matchbook horse racing includes every meeting on the Flat, over Jumps and All-Weather from the UK and Ireland. There are no international races but Ante-Post markets are available to back future selections. Typical day of the race betting includes win and place markets only. The Matchbook commission rate is extremely low. It is 1.7% when accepting odds posted by another user and 0.85% when you post an offer that is matched. However, you pay commission on losing stakes as well as winnings. Betting with and against other users means that Matchbook odds are extremely competitive, even after taking commission into account.

As well as an exchange, you can use your Matchbook sign in to play in the casino or try your luck at the Colossus pool betting game. Since May 2017, there has been a single wallet system in place, meaning no transfers are needed to play on different areas of the site.

When logged in your balance will be displayed in the header bar. To the right of this, there is a cog symbol that takes you to a settings menu where you can customise various user features and update personal details.

Sports are listed down the left but it must be said that the navigation is quite fiddly as there is no back button. A saver for this is the text search which enables you to go directly to the market you are looking for by typing in a selection, venue or sports team. Markets are shown in the centre of the screen and on the right is your betslip which has multiple functions. You can toggle the use of trader view, filter by events and enable a review orders option to verify bets before they are placed.

Matchbook live betting is more or less a continuation of the pre-event betting once an event has gone live. There are less markets available and you will  find that more popular events have the best liquidity. There is in-play betting for all sports but there are no pitch visualisations or graphical aids to assist your bet. This means that if you are not watching the action live, the movement in the odds is your only indicator as to how the event  is progressing.

Visiting Matchbook on a smartphone or tablet will present the exchange to you in a suitable format. This is a great improvement, as in the early days it was a difficult mobile site to get  to grips with. Now everything is in the right place and browsing the markets is a doddle.
